My Wedding Philosophy

Let’s get real…

Photos aren’t just something pretty that you look at. My grandparents were missionaries, and one of my favorite parts about going to visit as a kid would be when Grandpa pulled out his slides, and we would be swept away in their adventures in South America. After a house fire in 2004 that destroyed almost everything my family owned, I began to really understand the precious value in preserving these memories. Without photos, a lot of my childhood memories are like dreams - the more I think about them the more they fade away. A photograph has such a tangible connection to your past and a special power to evoke your emotions. I want you to look at your photos and be transported back - to the overwhelming butterflies as your groom read his vows to you at the altar, the gentle touch of your grandmother’s hand when she congratulated you after the ceremony, the pure joy of dancing amongst all the people that you love most at your reception…

Every moment matters.

I believe that part of my job is being the best sidekick you could ever dream of. This is most likely the first wedding you’ve planned, and I know how crazy it can feel! As your photographer, I will be the one by your side the most on your big day. I’m here to walk with you through creating your timeline, gush with you when you say yes to the dress, be the calming presence amidst pre-ceremony jitters, and dance with you and your guests at your reception. I will be there to fix your hair, hold your dress, pop grapes in your mouth when you forget to eat, you name it. I’ve got your back.

We’ll never go out of style.

My photography reflects a fun, modern, and romantic documentary style - I'm all about what's real. I'm inspired by film, the easy-going vibes of coastal New England and the vivid, liveliness of cities like Philadelphia, DC, and New York. Trends come and go, so I choose to edit my photos so that they will stand the test of time. When you look back at your photos in 30 years, I want you to remember the colors of those beautiful florals you meticulously picked out yourself, that touch of pink in your wedding dress, or the surreal baby blue of your mother’s eyes. I choose to use available light as much as possible - whether by the sun, neon signs, or headlights in a parking lot. Your wedding day is about you, your guests, and the one you love. When we meet before the wedding, we will go over what is most important to you, what you and your fiancé like to do together, and everything in between so that your memories of the day are true to you as a couple. This is your legacy! I’m so honored to be a part of it.

FAQ

Can I see some full wedding galleries?

OF COURSE! You should know exactly what you're getting when you book your wedding photographer, not just what we choose to show on instagram.

I would love to show you some full galleries so you can see how I shoot from getting ready all the way to the dance floor!

Where are you located? Do you travel?

I'm based in Portland, Maine but frequently travel around New England! I've been flown as far as Germany for a wedding, so nowhere is too far!

How many images do you deliver for a wedding?

There are a lot of factors that determine this, like the amount of hours I'm shooting or the size of the wedding party. Typically, you can expect to receive around 50-100 images per hour.

What do you need for us to book you?

All I need is a signed contract and deposit in order to save your date! I have a few different payment options, but the last payment is always due 1 month before the wedding date.

How long until we receive our photos?

6-8 weeks for wedding galleries and 2-4 weeks for portraits. I do my best to deliver galleries ASAP, but they can take longer during busy season, which is late summer and fall.

Do you have a second photographer for weddings?

I do have second shooters I love to work with! When you inquire with me, I will reach out and ask you questions that will help us determine if you should hire a second shooter. Some factors we'd discuss would be where the getting ready locations are, how many guests you're inviting to the wedding, or how flexible your timeline is.

Do you have insurance?

Absolutely. I have gear and liability insurance that I am happy to provide proof of if your venue requires it.

How long have you been shooting weddings?

I shot my first wedding in 2011, and launched Becca Dunn Photography in 2016!

Can you photoshop us?

I believe that you are beautiful the way you are, and your photos should reflect your true self. I will remove blemishes and small imperfections, but I do not photoshop you to look more tan or more skinny.

That being said, let me know if you have a "good side", a favorite body part, or if there's anything you're a little self conscious about. The goal is always to make you look and feel amazing!

What do you charge for wedding photography?

I take on a limited amount of weddings per year so I can establish a connection with each couple. Most couples invest $6000-$7500 for full day wedding photography coverage.

How far out are you booking?

I am only taking one or two more weddings for 2021, so reach out ASAP if you want me to be your photographer!

I will be opening up my calendar for 2022 weddings on January 1st.

What gear do you have?

I shoot with 2 Canon camera bodies at all times, and have 2 memory cards in each (one is a backup so that your photos are always safe!)

I prefer to shoot in natural light when possible so I can capture the true feel of the moment, but I do have flash equipment and am totally comfortable using it if necessary!

Can I print my own photos?

You sure can! FYI, I have a store attached to your gallery that allows you to order prints and products super easily from a photo lab I use and highly recommend.

My second recommendation would be to print from a local photo store (such as Hunts Photo + Video in New England!)

The people at these labs LOVE what they do, and take great care in creating high quality prints and products that will last for generations.

I won't stop you from printing from Walgreens or Shutterfly, but know the colors and quality of the prints will not be as intended (there's a reason why they're so cheap!)
